The series has made the jump to comics twice before, with Marvel publishing an 11-issue series in 1994-95 featuring artwork by Conner, and Slave Labor Graphics releasing 16 issues in 2006-08.

The series follows a clan of supernatural creatures known as Gargoyles who turn to stone during the daytime and come to life at night. Gargoyles ran for 78 episodes from 1994 to 1997, with the first two seasons airing as part of the syndicated Disney Afternoon package of shows and the third seasons moving to ABC on Saturday mornings. Today the publisher has unveiled a number of variant covers for the December-shipping Gargoyles #1, featuring artwork by David Nakayama, Amanda Conner, Jae Lee, and more. The new series will be written by the property’s creator, Greg Weisman, with the rest of the creative team yet to be announced. Dynamite Comics announced back at San Diego Comic Con that they are teaming with Disney to produce new comics based on the beloved animated series Gargoyles.
